ladya replied: "this is how i disappear"
nicky_vengeance_6661 replied: "this is how i disappear or bat country" What songs should I sing at the coffee house? I've been asked to do a solo (just me and my accoustic guitar) at a coffee house next week. I have a 2 song slot. Which songs should I sing? I will announce and dedicate them to the person with the best answer.
Hey mt75689 Thanks I really needed that reality check! Feel better now?! LOL. Get a life ok? Im just trying to get ideas. Christina C replied: "Hey there delilah - plain white t's
a thousand miles - vanessa carlton
bizarre love traingle - frente
no one - alicia keys
bubbly - colbie caillat
wonderwall - oasis (my first choice)"
Dinosaur. replied: "save you by matthew perryman jones is good."
forrestyler replied: "Just a random thought that popped into my head when I saw your question..sing "Que Sera" by Doris Day. =P
Isn't that an acoustic song?"
mt75689 replied: "Stop making it appear as though you have some huge repertoire of songs, and just play the only two that you know."
Amber C replied: "Bad Fish - Sublime
Plush - Stone Temple Pilots
Creep - STP
Jolene- Cake
Trains - Porcupine Tree
Good Riddance (Time of your life) -Green Day
Landslide - Fleetwood Mac
Yesterday - Beatles
Everlong- Foo Fighters
There are so many songs out there.. just find one that you feel comfortable singing..and make it your own"
Frosty replied: "As "sung" by Mike Meyers, in "So I Married an Axe-Murderer."
HARRIET, HARRIET HARD-HEARTED
HARBINGER OF HAGGIS
BEAUTIFUL, BEMUSED BELLICOSE BUTCHER
UNTRUST-ING
UNKNOW-ING
UNLOV-ING
HE WANTS YOU BACK HE SCREAMS INTO
THE NIGHT AIR LIKE A FIREMAN GOING
TO A WINDOW THAT HAS NO FIRE EXCEPT
THE PASSION OF HIS HEART
I AM LONELY,
IT'S REALLY HARD
THIS POEM SUCKS
Okay, that was a little goofy. Your Q just reminded me of that movie, that's all. Other ideas:
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Coffee Shop
I am just a lousy burn
Searching for the unknown crumb
The crumb the crumb
Something or someone to come
Come along illuminate my lust
Combust
Confucius might have been confused
And Buddha might have blown a fuse
Jooze the muse
Meet me at the coffee shop
We can dance like Iggy Pop
Another go in the parking lot
Frewak the cheek on your hotspot
Back and forth my body¹s jerking
Will to thrill will not stop working
Work and work
I¹ll take you on a honeymoon
Jumping on a bed in a hotel room
The room the groom
Meet me at the coffee shop
We can dance like Iggy Pop
Another go in the parking lot
Frewak the cheek on your hotspot
It'd be interesting to hear it acoustically.
Even More Ideas:
air traffic - shooting star
the red jumpsuit apparatus - your guardian angel
the used - the taste of ink
3 doors down - here without you
madina lake - escape from here
skillet - whispers in the dark
skillet - comatose
Oh, Summertime by Sublime - probably the best suggestion I have."
Rachel_S165 replied: "Sing songs you already know well and play flawlessly from memory.
One week before the gig is NOT the time to be learning and memorizing new material. You're more likely to forget chord changes or lyrics and screw up, and then you'll come off looking unprepared and amateurish -- which you will be. Don't even think about getting up on stage with a music stand and tab sheets or sheet music -- that's just not done. REAL folk musicians perform from memory and/or by ear."
Charlie S replied: "Imagine - Lennon
Me and Mr Jones - Counting Crows
Lyin' Eyes - Eagles
Anything from my bands song list -click repertoire"
Scots Pines replied: "I would sing whatever songs you really like to sing and think would be good for that atmosphere, something really mellow, or whatever songs come to your mind and stay there.
But for suggestions, would you like to sing
Edelweiss from The Sound of Music ?
Or something Viennese, like Wien, Wien, nur du allein....? although that probably would be new to you
* it would be nice to find a song with a guitar interlude, so you could just play the music, and then re-join it later
Whatever you sing, have a lovely evening
x"
leftie1959 replied: "Play a song that goes with your personality and your look."
alex replied: "Body Language by Kaci Brown
it totally suits you & your wide variety of... interests
it includes dora the explorer & jellys jumping one-two
enjoy although mika newton works too" If I try to buy an existing coffee house franchise, how could I get financing after a bankruptcy? I have been trying to find the perfect business to start and found this coffee house that is attached to a book store. It has a "mini borders feel". I think that it is fairly priced and would like to sit with the owner and make an offer. How could I possibly get financing to start this after a personal Bankruptcy? I am tired of relying on failing business in MI to support me for a few months at a time only to move on attempting to find a job in a flooded market. I want to be a job provider. I have a strong desire to take this leap and make it successful. William C replied: "Hate to put a damper on your plans but there is no way."
ChrisKinVA replied: "Instead of buying it why don't you work there first to make sure you really want to get into this line of work.
If it works out well for a year you might be in a better position to prove your credit worthiness to a bank. You could also structure it as a lease with a % of the profits returned to the owner for a set period of time. Once a threshold has been met the business is turned over to you."
sophie replied: "You have to wait till they are done filing for bankruptcy, I just recently bought a store, that filed and they told me it would take two weeks to reopen.................It took 8 months to reopen!!! It really hurt us financially cause we had a 6 month grace on inventory, and the wait took so long we had too much invested, let's just say we are still trying to get caught up!! Good Luck with your business I hope it goes good for you!!"
Steven C replied: "Incorporate yourself.
If you do that, it will not look at your personal credit, but instead the corporation's credit.
If you are going into your own business, it is always better to do business as a corporation rather than as an individual. That way if the business goes under, it will not affect your personal credit."
Rupert W replied: "Strong desire huh? Two guys near me had a strong desire to breathe but they still drowned at the weekend. Sometimes that is not enough but I do appalude your desire to add value by being a job provider.
In terms of raising the money, I am not a banker but I am an investor and regardless of the history, if someone came to me with a total shoe-in in terms of a business plan then I'd still look at it. Sure I might require more security and probably a higher rate of return for the percieved added risk but if that did not put the business case under then I'm sure that someone can be found to lend you the money.
That said I can't see a current business owner of a successful business selling it to you at enough of a discount to allow you the headroom to accomodate your bad credit. If the deal is so sweet then that would tell me that the underlying business is not as sound or as luctrative as it looks. If it were he'd be asking for more money but maybe, just maybe you can make it work.
So to you other point about a saturated job market. There is no such thing if you are bringing value to the table. Take a look at what value you bring and find a way to increase that value. If you can articulate that to a potential employer they'll rip your hand off, if you can't then the job market starts to appear saturated - believe me it isn't, anywhere, ever." What would you like to see in a coffee house? Hey!!
I am needing some help for a project of mine, and wondered if anyone out there will be able to help me on my quest!
I need to find out what people would like to see in a coffee house, whether it be live music, homely atmosphere, i need to come up with a new concept and was wondering if anyone would be willing to give me some clue as to what you would like to see within the coffee shop industry.
Thanks So Much :)
Sam x BlueSea replied: "Cleanliness! I mean picking up the napkin dispenser and clean it too and wiping under it, wiping off the wall or windowsill next to the table, cleaning the floor, etc...etc..wipe off the chairs.
That said just a really comfortable place to sit and sip some awesome coffee, live music on the weekends would be great,"
Angel Reed replied: "A comfortable atmosphere would invite me to a coffee shop. Plus, as far as drinks and food served, a wide variety for many people. Don't forget to include items like soymilk and offer to make lattes and other coffee beverages with something like soymilk. People are becoming more and more drawn to comfortable atmosphere with variety, rather than corporate entities such as DD or Starbucks.
There is a small, local coffee shop near me that I love. It is cute, good variety, great local people, etc. They allow community people to leave their busniness cards, they also allow a bulletin board for area events. The workers there are friendly, which makes a huge difference. However, I would definintely go there more if the seating was more comfortable, if they had something warming like a fireplace, and if they did have some live entertainment every so often (music, poetry readings, etc). Hope this helps!"
Astrid replied: "I think they just need better staff."
nicpowel replied: "Staff who actually care about coffee and know ABOUT it, instead of just how to make it :P"
soothsayer replied: "they need more sexy girls."
epic_laydown replied: "I don't hang out in them very often, but if I were to, I would add some music on Fri or Sat night, like a mellow singer, or guitarist, or 2-3 man band. Nothing too loud or overbearing.
I'd also add some chess boards, or games, magazines, some classic books and coffee table books. I'd add some art for sale by local artists and make sure the coffee is super good." What are the first steps I need to take in order to start up my own Coffee house? I'd like to own and run my own coffee house someday. Where do I start? Is there a good book to get the details on how exactly I do this and what steps I need to take? For example, how do I obtain or choose a location? Where do I choose suppliers? I have not taken any business courses either, so I could use any advice. jasonlajoie replied: "There may be free business planing help in your area if you live in a city, look into this first if applicable. A lot of what makes a business work is common sense. You wouldn't put a coffee house up some back alley no one will see, you would look for a visible space with lots of foot traffic. Near where a lot of people work all day would be a good location. I'm realizing this could go on for a long time explaining details and my dinner was just put on the table. Check Amazon.com for books on starting a small business. Good luck:)"
Ajosh replied: "I can give my opinion on location and maybe something else ;)
I would choose something near a university or area where there are a lot of business that rely on computer nerds. As career computer nerd myself, I can tell you me and my team walk to the coffee houses several times a day because we all are addicted to caffeine and we like to see the hot chicks that work there who pretend they like us for bigger tips.
The "hot chicks" comment is good segway for another suggestion that I thought of when I was considering opening one myself. Hire good looking guys. Yes, I said guys. Although me and my friends will go where the hot girls work, we typically order the cheaper drinks like black coffee. But the profit is to be had with the girly foo-foo mochachino whipcream type drinks, so you want to attract more women to your coffee house than men. How better to do it with hot flirty guys?"
NENE replied: "the newspaper is where to find a location, walmart is a good place to buy supplies, try some internet courses for some knowlegde on business"
David N replied: "You'll need to draw a full business plan first so that how you run your coffee house is drawn out on paper. It takes time, but you will quickly realize what it is really going to take to operate the business (this will either motivate you, or push you on to something else). The next step would be to find some people with the same passion you have to help in getting the shop going. This is a strength in numbers thing and is really important especially if this is your first endeavor. After that, isolating a location will be based on foot traffic, and setting up a meeting with the planning department in your city to make sure your shop will be properly zoned. Starting to network with the people in the city and county building will save you heartache later as these people are valuable sources when it comes to expediting the process of obtaining permits and even appointments with inspectors. Talking with other independent coffee shop owners will save you time, money and possibly save you from some of the mistakes they made before they had it all figured out."
Dutch Master replied: "go sit in a starbucks and see how the most successful chain in the world does it and try and get friendly with the manager and they may impart some good tips to you cause you will never put them out of business . Most starbucks managers i have met are really friendly and always come over to where we sit and ask if everything is good and do we need a paper etc .Do not open near one too would be a good idea and try and get near a better educated , upscale area, and remember service , service , service , and you will win ."
imisidro replied: "Starbucks proved that coffee is one hot commodity (literally and figuratively!) that many would-be business owners are planning to start their own coffee shop business. People are making it a habit to visit their favorite coffee shop everyday to get their latte fix.
One important note, though -- this is a business that requires capital and can hardly be started on a $5,000 budget. In fact, according to Bellissimo Coffee Infogroup, you will need the following amounts to start your coffee shop business:
Coffee Cart: Usual start-up cost is $20,000–$25,000 to open and stock.
Kiosk: Depending on the size and what menu items are offered, it will usually cost between $50,000–$60,000.
Coffee Drive-Thru: The cost of opening a drive-thru espresso business operation can vary dramatically, from the the very small units for less than $30,000 to anywhere between $80,000–$180,000 depending on how the shop looks.
Sit Down: The cost of opening a sit-down coffee shop is comparable to the cost of opening an upscale drive-thru. Start-up costs for most 1200 sq. ft. coffee bars average $150,000 to $300,000.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!" Need to find someone experienced in running a coffee house? I want to start a business but I need some help from someone with experience in running a coffee house. I'd even consider partnership. How do I find that person??? Go Cubs Go replied: "Advertise in the paper. Go around to Starbucks. A lot are closing. Give the manager your card. If that person is losing their job or knows of someone then they can contact you." Any Suggestions for a monologue for coffee house? I'm currently in highschool and at my highschool in the spring time there are auditions for a coffee house. So keeping my age range in mind are there any suggestions on monologues I could do?? mamabee replied: "I'd come up with a character like the one on friends...Pheobe. Get a guitar and go to town. "Smelly Cat..."" Any good poems i could recite for the Coffee House? Ok so, in school we are having a coffee house type thing... But what sucks is that i can't find a good poem to recite. I need something that is appropriate for a 6th grade class. Could you please tell me any good poems, oh and not too long either, maybe like half a page.
Best answer will be picked!! Ryan replied: "Little bird from yonder hill
sat upon my window sill
I fed the birdie
crumbs of bread
and then I smashed its god (d)amned head!"
Confused replied: "Invictus
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever Gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of Circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of Chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
William Ernest Henley"
Kevin S replied: "I do believe I have the perfect "coffee house" poem for you...here it is:
Jazz-man
Jazz-man take your five
Stretch it out to ten
Before you’re back again
Cold coffee and stale conversation
Pretentious Boheme babble
In a room too thick with smoke
Enough to make you choke
Banging clanging dishes add a chorus in the rear
Makes it hard to hear
If you really want to listen
Coolness has a price in red-eyed discomfort
Youth pretending age; Age in search of youth
Both just lacking couth
Twisted smiles like cynic dials
Speak truth behind deception
From their base of misconception
Sweat and stains with fashion names
Designer labels for modern fables
Complaints about conditions
And the faults with all the world
Ideas and perceptions that will never see the light
For paradox and ignorance live better in the night
Conundrums are not bongos
And big words don’t prove a brain
One more link in one more chain
Whirlpooled life goes down the drain...
Shhhh, the Jazz-man’s back again

cheers" Where can I find a coffee house / cafe in South Jersey that is not Starbucks with a good atmosphere to chill o I work at a starbucks but I can never get any studying done when I go because I know most of the customers and baristas that work around my town there. I want to try a different coffee house that I can do work in that has a laid back atmosphere somewhere in the south jersey area. Any suggestions? hitchnj replied: "i guess it depends on where in south jersey you are.. if you are near a college town there are probably a few good places like that near the college.. your best bet might be to either go to barnes and noble and use their cafe, which is sort of starbucks as well.. or just go to starbucks anyway and wear headphones.. leave your ipod in plain view on the table next to your book and people should get the hint that you are not looking to chat right then.." Does anyone know of a good coffee house in Chicago? me and my friends are looking for a coffee house downtown that has open mic nights and is one of those authentic coffee houses. one that mainly serves coffee's and tea's. if you know of any that would be great!
thanks a ton! chicagomoviemaker replied: "Go to about 1400 W. Chicago Ave. There are a lot of great coffee houses including Mercury Cafe. It's got a great art scene and the people there are totally awesome. They do have open mic nights and all that good stuff. The place is huge; I really suggest you check it out. Cheers.
They also have great food and of course good brew."
